Review of Beachbody 10 Minute Trainer Day 6: Lower Body, Cardio, Total Body

Day 6:

I really did not want to workout today. I wanted to lay in bed all day and do nothing, but I got up and I pushed play! After I was done, I was happy that I had done it. This format is starting to grow on me too. I've never been fond of doing multiple workouts in one day and this whole three segments in one day didn't seem like a great idea to me, but it breaks up the workout so it seems to go fast. Most of the Beachbody programs have a timer ticking down the entire workout and then a timer ticking down the move or segment you're on. This one has a timer with the time left in the workout and a bar that fills up as you do each move. The timer is only for that segment though, so it starts at 10 minutes even if it's my first segment of the day.I keep telling myself that I just have 6 moves left or 4 move left. Then I get a break when I switch to the new segment and I've got a new 10 minute timer. I tackle my 30 minute workout 10 minutes at a time. It works for me!

Lower Body

This was my second time doing this one. I have to say that I didn't remember much of the first workout. I knew that it involved lunges and squats, but that's all I remembered. I like that there isn't anything I dread in any of these workouts other than pretty much the entire Abs program. You can check out my post about Day 4 of 10 Minute Trainer so you can see all of the different moves.  Some of the moves were hard, like the In and Out Hop Squats, but they were doable. I had to slow down and not go as deep as the person in the video, but I got through it!

Cardio

Woot woot, I got to do cardio again! I don't mine this workout though. I think the Lower Body section actually had me more out of breath than the Cardio workout. This one doesn't have anything horrible in it. I'm not a fan of the Hop Squat Run Backs at the end, but they're good for me.

Total Body

This was my second time doing this one as well. It was almost like doing a new workout though. I didn't remember much from this one. You can read about the moves in my post about Day 2 of 10 Minute Trainer. I just realized that I put some wrong information in a post from yesterday or the day before! UGH! This was the workout with the Carlito's Pushups which are actually Burpees! Oopsy. There's still nothing I dread in this workout. We also had push ups in this one. I did the first few on my toes, but I didn't get down to the floor. I'm getting better at this push up thing, but I'm just not quite there yet.

No more new workouts until Thursday next week when I do Total Body 2. That's the last one that I haven't done in the Basic Program. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to mix in the upgraded workouts into my first round or if I'll do them after I'm done with my first round. I have mixed emotions on it and could convince myself that either option is the best way to go. I think it would be good to do the basic program to see if I actually do get bored doing the same 8 workouts over and over again throughout the four weeks. I think it would be fine if the workouts weren't repeated in the same week similar to 21 Day Fix and 21 Day Fix Extreme. You get 9 workouts with the base program. Seven are 30 minute workouts that you do Monday through Sunday. Then you get a 10 minute ab workout and a 30 minute bonus workout that you can swap for a cardio workout during the week or do whenever you want. 10 Minute Trainer is different because you get 8 workouts (9 if you buy from a coach). The workouts are only 10 minutes though so you do the same workout multiple times in a week. We'll see how it goes.

Want to learn more? Watch the video!

If you want to learn more about the program, check out the video. If you decide you want to buy it, make sure you buy it from a Beachbody Coach so you get the free workout that comes with it. If you don't have a coach, you can get it from me. You can do the program for free if you sign up for the free trial of the Club Membership at Team Beachbody. With the trial, you get 30 days access to all of the workout programs in the Member Library of On Demand. 10 Minute Trainer is one of the programs and since it's a 4 week program, you can complete the program before the trial is complete.

The Biggest Loser Workouts that I've Done

I've done several of the workouts from The Biggest Loser and thought that I should create a list of them so they were all in one place.

The Biggest Loser Calorie Knockout Extreme Cardio for Maximum Burn

This one has three different circuits. It also has a warm up and a cool down. You can pick what you want to do or play them all. I've done all three of the circuits. You can read about them by clicking the circuit numbers below.

Circuit 1 - This was led by Ana and it was a kickboxing type of cardio workout.
Circuit 2 - This was led by Bob Harper and it was pretty intense. It involved strength, cardio and yoga.
Circuit 3 - This was led by Dolvett and it was a Tabata style.

The Biggest Loser Weight Loss Yoga

This one has three different sessions. It also has a warm up and a cool down. You can pick what you want to do or play them all. I've only done the first session so far. You can read about it by clicking below.

Yoga Level 1 - This was 20 minutes and several basic yoga moves like Warrior 1 and Warrior 2.
Yoga Level 2 - This one was all about the abs!
Yoga Level 3 - This one involved weights while doing yoga.

The Biggest Loser Power X-Train

This is another one with three different workouts plus the warm up and cool down. You can play whatever you want or play them all. So far, I've only done the Metabolic Circuit. This one has an option to look at the 30 Day Workout Program. When you click on it, you see Weeks 1 through 4 listed. Then when you select a specific week, it gives you a recommendation for that week. Week 1 has to workout 6 days. You do each of the three programs twice. Week 2 has you workout 6 days as well, but one day, you'll do two workouts so you do the Metabolic Circuit 3 times and the other two twice each. Week three has you workout 6 days and you pick 2 days to workout twice. You do Metabolic Circuit and Power X-Train three times. Week four has you workout 6 days and you do two workouts on each day. It says you can do them back to back or you can do them separately.

Metabolic Circuit - I did this workout about a year ago. I was at 309 pounds. It apparently was pretty dang tough for me back then. It used weights and had a lot of lunges and squats.
Power Training - This was led by Dolvett. I did this a year or so after the Metabolic Circuit.
All About Reps - I did this workout about a year after the Metabolic Circuit. I was 259 when I did it. It was pretty intense, but I made it through without taking any breaks other than the 60 seconds between rounds.

The Biggest Loser: The Workout

I think this was the original one because it doesn't have a secondary catchy name. It's just The Biggest Loser The Workout. This one has four workouts plus a warm up and a cool down. The DVD says the cool down is 20 minutes, but it's only 10. It's a lot of yoga poses. Bob is the instructor for all of them. The DVD has a prefab workout program that's listed as a 6 week program. You can do the prefab stuff or you can customize and do whatever you want. The prefab thing says for weeks 1-3 to workout 6 days a week and alternate workouts #1 and #3. Then it says for weeks 2-4 to workout 6 days a week and alternat workouts 2 and 4. I think they meant to say weeks 4-6, but they very clearly wrote weeks 2-4. Made my head hurt at first. The DVD gives you the option of playing the workouts with just the music or having the instructor speaking as well.

Low Intensity Cardio - This one is 25 minutes and it kicked my butt way back a year ago. I love going back and reading my posts from back then.
High Intensity Cardio - This was high intensity for sure! There were four basic rounds. We started small and built on the moves until we were bouncing around and breathing heavy. It was a good workout.
Strength and Sculpt - I liked this workout. It had a lot of doable strength training moves and he made them more intense by changing things up. We held a position for a bit or did small pulses. It really worked me over!

The Biggest Loser Power Walk

This one had four walking segments plus a warm up and a cool down. You can do whichever you want or all of them. Bob led the first and third miles, and former contestants lead the second and fourth miles.

I did all of this on one day so I don't have multiple posts for the different segments. You can read about the whole workout by checking out my review post on The Biggest Loser The Workout Power Walk. If you like walking workouts, checkout Leslie Sansone. She has tons of them that are better than this one.

The Biggest Loser Cardio Max Weight-Loss

I did all three of the workouts in this one on the same day. If you're just starting out, I don't recommend doing that, but I've been workout for about a year, so I jumped right into all three since I had the time and I wanted to get this DVD done! It's pretty intense if you do it all at one time. I wasn't sure if I would be able to walk the next day, but I was able to. I was pretty happy. This mixed cardio bursts with some strength training. The strength training stuff still gets your heart pumping too. You can read a play by play of the workout on my post about The Biggest Loser Cardio Max Weight-Loss.

Review of The Biggest Loser The Workout High Intensity Cardio

High Intensity Cardio

Yesterday, I did the High Intensity Cardio workout from The Biggest Loser The Workout. I also finally made it through the entire cool down. The DVD says it's 20 minutes, but it's only 10. The front of the DVD says there are 6 workouts, but that's only if you include the warm up and the cool down. This was the last of the four workouts for me. I did Low Intensity Cardio and Boot Camp about a year ago. I did Strength and Sculpt earlier this week.

This workout only had two former contestants in it. It's kind of weird for me when there are so few people on the screen. I'm not really sure why, but it just is. I didn't really feel a connection with either of the former contestants so it made it less fun for me. It was cardio, so that's always less fun anyway. Oh well.

There were basically four rounds to this. We started each one small and then built on it until it was pretty intense. We had some small breaks in the middle, but during the "breaks" we were supposed to still pretend to jump rope or do side steps or something.

We started out jumping rope. I usually don't do this when we're supposed to. I kind just do some small running in place when they jump rope. I actually did the jump rope this time. Then we started hopping side to side. Then we went into side steps. I'm a pro at these from all of the Leslie Sansone Workouts I've done. Then we dropped down and kept doing the side steps. This really does make it more challenging. Then we made it more of a hop than a side step. Then we turned it into more of a Skater and got the arms going with it. Then we went back to the side step and worked on building it up again. We reached our arm out this time. Then we added the hop and turned it into a skater. We were supposed to get it going faster. Then we went back to side steps. Then we did a one minute burst of skaters as fast as we could. He had us hold on one leg for a few seconds and then hold the other leg for a few seconds too. That was weird since we were in this big cardio burst and then had to stop moving. Then we went back to jumping rope.

Then we did tire drills and football runs. This round was hard! We pretended like we were running through tires so we had to have our feet out wide and lift our knees up high. Then we kept our feet low and just picked them up a little bit as fast as we could. I'm sure you've seen them do this at footbal practice. They usually do that and then drop down to the ground then get back up again and do it again. We didn't do the drop to the ground thing. We did move forward a few feet and then back a few feet though. We alternated between tires and fast feet. Then we went back to jumping rope. This was killer on my calves. I normally hate high knees, but it was way better than doing fast feet. After some jumping rope to recover, we did another round of alternating fast feet and high knees. Then we did more jumping rope and then one minute of tires as fast as we could and then fast feet, more tires more fast feet and done! My calves were absolutely killing me by the time we were done! Then we did more jumping rope.

We moved into a boxing round. We did jabs and then jab and cross and then hooks. Then we did jab, cross, hook, hook. We were supposed to do these fast. Then we did the same thing on the other side. I felt weird without my gloves on. I feel like a dork punching without them. I feel like a bad ass with them! We did a one minute past of fast jab cross punching. We did 30 seconds on each side. We did it up high like a speed bag, but we didn't do them like speed bags I've done before. It was a bit weird and the two of them looked fairly dorky. The female was annoying the bajeezas out of me. She just kept whining about how hard it was. Then we did more jumping rope.

Then we moved into a kicking round. We started simple. We had one foot in front of them other and then we stepped the back foot forward and then back. After a few seconds, we brought the knee up into a knee raise and then stepped it back. Then we changed it to a kick. We did this on each side. We kicked for what felt like an eternity! I was pretty excited about how high my kicks are getting! All of that foam rolling is really doing wonders for stuff like that. Then we did a one minute blast of alternating kicks. We didn't do any steps between them. We were supposed to pick up the speed, but I just couldn't do it very fast. I was pretty beat by this time. My legs were on fire! I feel it today. They don't hurt, but they are all tingly. Then we did more jump rope.

Then I finally did the entire cool down from this workout. It says it was 20 minutes, but it was only 10. It was a lot of yoga stretches. We did tree pose, but the way he brought us through it made it a lot easier. we started with our foot down by the opposite ankle. The toe was touching the floor, but the heel was up by the ankle. After we got used to that, he said we could make it more challenging by moving our foot up higher so the heel was near the knee and the toe by the ankle. We then moved up even further. I like how he had us build on things during the workout and the cool down. Bob's awesome. He's hard care, but he's awesome.

BodyMedia Screen Shot

I finally got a screen shot that I'm proud of! 16 minutes of vigorous activity! YAY! There was 10 minutes of cool down on this thing, so I'm pretty happy with 21 minutes of total activity too.

Review of The Biggest Loser the Workout Strength and Sculpt

Strength and Sculpt

This is the third workout that I've done from The Biggest Loser The Workout. I've done different DVDs from this series, but this is my third from this DVD. You can read about the others on my posts Boot Camp and Low Intensity Cardio. I did those workouts about a year ago. I was over 300 pounds then. Now, I'm 257 and have been working out pretty solid for about a year. It's amazing the difference a year can make.

This workout only had two contestants in it. Bob led the workout. It was all about strength training. We did each exercise for a minute.

We started off with single arm bent over rows. We were in a lunge position and just kept rowing. We did one side and then switched to the other. We did 30 seconds of this on each side.

Then we picked up both weights and did Pec Deck. We put our arms up at a 90 degree angle out to the side. Then we brought our hands and elbows in to the center. I was using 10 pound weights. This was hard. He had us hold it in for a few seconds at one point and then we went back to moving for the rest of the round.

Then we did squats with the weights down by our sides. I could have done these with heavier weights, but I don't have heavier weights. It always intrigues me that these workouts just use the same set of weights for the entire thing. 10 pound weights with squats is like nothing, but 10 pounds on those pec decks was HARD!

Then we did overhead presses. I kept with the 10 pound weights, but it was tough. My shoulders are just not as strong as I'd like them to be. I've made great progress with them though. I made it through this round. For a few reps he had us alternate our arms instead of doing them both at the same time. Then we started moving again and then we held it with our arms down. That part was really really rough!

Then we did bicep curls. We were supposed to squeeze at the top. Then we did pulses at the top. Then we held it half way down. That was fun!

Then we did lunges with the weights. They were forward lunges. We alternated legs. I don't do so well with forward lunges. I'm getting better. I was able to step out far enough, but stepping back involved a half step in the middle. I'm getting better, but I still suck. Doing these with 10 pound weights was no big deal. We did have to hold a lunge on each side for about 15 seconds. That was killer!

Then we did wide squats with the weights. About halfway through, we did short pulses. Then we went back to the full range of motion. The pulses are hard! Then we held it for about 12 seconds. We did these with the weights, but again, leg stuff with 10 pound weights is nothing.

Then we got down on the floor on our backs. We did tricep extensions. I really like these on my back instead of standing up. If we had a bar, these would have been called skull crushers. So Google that if you want to see the form. I did these with the 10 pound weights. They were much easier to do like this with the 10 pounders than standing up like in 21 Day Fix.

Then we set the weights down and went into Bridge. We lifted into it and then lowered down. To make it harder, we stretched one leg out and then did it. We did each side for a few reps.  Then we put both legs down and held the Bridge position. Then we did little pulses up. This wasn't that bad. Then we held it again.

Then we did reverse curls. We picked up chest up off the floor like in a crunch. Then we pulled our knees in towards our chests. We were supposed to get our butts off the mat every time. This wasn't bad as long as I didn't put my feet down too low. I felt it in my back then.

Then we did oblique crunches. Both feet were on the floor. We crunched up and tried to meet an elbow to the opposite knee. We alternated sides. We held each side up for about 10 seconds and then went back to alternating. The holds and the short range of motion bursts on some of these really amped up the intensity of this.

Then we did regular crunches. My abs were killing me by the time we were done with this. We were supposed to get our shoulders off the mat each time. We did some short pulses on top and then held it as high as we could for a few seconds.

Then we moved into Plank. We started on our knees and then went up onto our toes. This was an elbow plank. My least favorite planks. I had to take a couple breaks on this one.

Then we went to Baby Cobra. We went up and lowered a few times. Then we transitioned into Supermans. We held this one for the last few seconds.

Then we moved to Child's Pose.

I didn't have time to do the cool down. The back of the DVD said that it was 20 minutes. Turns out, it's only 10 minutes, but I did 5 minutes of it. If I had known it was only 10 minutes, I would have done the whole thing.

I liked the workout. I was a little sore in my shoulders and triceps the next day. I could feel it in my legs too. I haven't really gotten crazy sore lately though. I kinda miss it. I'm hoping BodyBeast will do that. I start tomorrow!

BodyMedia Screen Shot

This wasn't a fast paced cardio workout, so the BodyMedia device thinks I was sitting on the couch eating bon bons. That drives me nuts. I was sweating and breathing heavy. Ugh. Oh well. I guess I need to get used to this since this is what Body Beast will be like!

The Biggest Loser The Workout Power X-Train Review Part 3

Power X-Train

This DVD had three different workouts. I did them on three different days. The first one was about a year ago. It was the Metabolic Circuit that I did back then. The other day, I did All About Reps. This time I did Power Training. Dolvett led this one. He also led the warm up and cool down on this workout. I love Dolvett on the show. He's probably my favorite trainer on there, but in a DVD, he's just weird. I've already talked about the warm up and cool down on previous DVDs, so I won't bore you with that on this post. I'm going to focus on the actual workout.

We only had one dumbbell for this workout. We started with curtsy lunges with a shoulder press. We went down into the lunge and then came up into a shoulder press with one arm. We did each move for 60 seconds. Then we switched sides. There are no timers on this which was highly annoying. I like my timers now! I never liked them before, but now I need them. It's especially important when trainers like Dolvett keep saying, "Just a couple seconds." As I'm watching this, he just said, "Three more. And by three, I mean a lot." He said three more, but it was like 30 seconds more. He's so annoying.

We set the weight down and then did something that's hard to explain. Our feet were out side. We then squatted down and touched a hand down to the opposite foot. Then we did the other hand to the opposite foot. Then we stood up, jumped our feet back together and then jumped them out. One of the guys didn't land in the middle. He just jumped up high enough that he could touch his feet together than then kick them back out before he landed. That was awesome. I tried one and decided I was done with that.

We then moved into a forward lunge with two rows. So we went to the forward lunge and then did two single arm rows and then back up into a standing position. This was hard for me because I don't do well with forward lunges. I thought about just doing backward lunges, but I'm only going to get better at forward lunges if I actually do them. I can step out okay now. It used to hurt my knee to step forward. However, getting back up still takes a stutter step in the middle. It's getting better, but I'm not quite there yet. Then we did the other side.

We set the weight down. We placed one leg back behind us kind of like in a lunge position, but not that far back. Then we brought that leg forward and raised the knee. We did a jump on the plant leg. I was doing kind of a bounce and not really a jump.

Then we went down on the floor and did push ups with a shoulder tap. So we did a push up and then touched one hand to the opposite shoulder. We alternated which hand did the tapping. I did these on my knees. Dolvett had one of the guys touch both shoulders at one time for one rep.

Then we got down on our butts. We had our hands behind us and our legs bent in front of us. We then lifted our butts off the floor as high as we could go. It was reverse table top position I think. We just kept going up and down with it. This was to work our triceps, but I don't think I felt it there.

Then we got back up and did that lunge to knee lift to jump thing. At the end of this move, he made it sound like the workout was done, but it wasn't. He kept driving me nuts with that.

Then we did one arm kettlebell swings with dumbbells. I should have grabbed my bell, but I just did it the way he was having them do it. We did each arm.

Then we got down on the floor in push up position and did jumping jack moves with our legs. I'm so not a fan of these. Apparently neither was one of the people in the workout because she stopped a few times during it. I didn't have to stop. YAY!

Then we were back on our butts again. We had our legs bent in front of us. We were supposed to keep our feet up if we could. I couldn't. We touched both hands to the floor to one side, then reached up and then touched down to the opposite side. We went back and forth with that. My abs were killing me! This was torture! Even keeping my feet on the floor was hard!

The last move was called Crescent Moons according to him. We kept our hands on the floor behind us. We then lifting our legs up and arced them over to the other side and back. One of the guys looked like he was going to die doing these. I guess I just wasn't doing them right because it wasn't torture for me to do these.

Then we stretched for a few seconds before going into the cool down.

Overall, this would have been a much better workout if he hadn't kept saying, "A couple more seconds." Tell me the bloody truth! Give me a timer people!

BodyMedia Screen Shot

Here is the screen shot from the workout. I'm kind of bummed about only 9 minutes of activity! I really miss Les Mills Combat and my crazy activity minutes and vigorous minutes!

The Biggest Loser The Workout Cardio Max Weight-Loss Review

Cardio Max Weight-Loss

This DVD has three workouts plus a warm up and a cool down. You can customize it to play whichever segments you want or you can follow their Maximum Results Program. It appears that with the program they recommend that you do the first workout 3-5 times a week for the first two weeks and then the middle two weeks you do Level 1 and 2 4-5 times a week and then the last two weeks you do the whole DVD 4-5 times a week. They have a maintenance listing as well which suggests that you workout for 45 minutes a day 4-5 times a week. I just did the whole DVD at one time. This was a decision that I ended up regretting because this DVD was crazy hard! If I had broken it up, it probably wouldn't have been that rough. You can play this DVD with just the music or with the instructor comments as well.

The Warm Up

The warm up was led by Sione. He's been in other workouts that I've done. He's an okay instructor, but he can be dorky at times. We started out with some squats and then did some jogging. That transitioned into high knees and then butt kicks. Then we Alternated lifting our knees and then we went to alternating lunges while twisting to the opposite side. Then we kicked one leg up and reached out with the opposite arm. Then we did a couple side bends. Then we hugged ourselves and stretched our arms back. we alternated those for a few moments. Then we did some lateral lunges.

Level 1

This was led by Bob. We used a light weight. Former contestants were in the workout. We started out in a split squat, but it was a weird position. One leg was in front and the back leg was angled a little bit. We started out with a weight in one hand. We did squats just holding the weight. Then we held a squat position and did single arm rows. Then we squatted down and held the squat and did a row then stood up. It was one squat, one row, stand. We did that for a bit. Then we built on that. We squatted, did a row, stood and did a shoulder press. Then we held a normal squat stance but it was a little wide. Almost sumo squat stance. We held the squat did did Hammer Curls. Then we added motion. We did a squat and held the squat while we did a hammer curl and then stood. Then we held the squat and did half range of motion hammer curls. We did the top half range. After that, we did the lower half range of motion. We were supposed to do them fast. Then we did a cardio burst of jumping jacks! Then we repeated it all on the other side. More jumping jacks! I love jumping jacks. NOT!

Then we grabbed the weights again. We held a squat position and did Tricep Kickbacks. I'm not a fan of these, but I got through them. Then we did squats with them. Then we got down on the floor and did push ups and flies. We did a push up and then grabbed the dumbbell to do a one arm fly. Then the weight went back down. We did each side. The cardio burst on this was holding a push up position and jumping out feet in and out sort of like jumping jacks with our legs, but we were in push up position. Our hands didn't move. Then we held the plank and then went to Down Dog. Then we walked our hands back and stood up.

We stood up and did a Crescent Kick that turned into a squat as we landed. Then we did a side kick on the same leg. Then we did some jumping rope and repeated the crescent kicks and side kicks on the opposite side. Then we did some punching and we were done!

Level 2

This was led by Sione and Tara. We did squats and came up on our toes. We held the squat position, but came up on the toes. It was a bit weird. Then we "bounced it out." This time we did the same thing, but instead of holding the squat position, we came up to a full extension and still came up on our toes. More bouncing it out. Then we squatted down and jumped up. We used our arms to help propel us up. I hate jumping, but I did it because I need to get over my jumping issues. More bouncing.

We grabbed a set of dumbbells and did standing abs. We held the weights at our shoulders and alternated lifting our knees up as far as we could. More bouncing. Then we went back to the weights at our shoulders and raising alternate knees, but this time we pulled our shoulders down to meet the knee. More bouncing. Then we did alternating knees again, but the knee was supposed to come across to meet the opposite knee. More bouncing.

Then we did alternating rear lunges while doing hammer curls. More bouncing. Then we did alternating curtsy lunges with the hammer curls. More bouncing. Then we did a bit of a skater jump with the cursty lunge. More bouncing.

Then we did a side step and punched up up and across. So the right arm punched over the left shoulder. More bouncing. Then we punched down to the opposite side. More bouncing. Then we were supposed to jump from one foot to the other. So it was a bit of a skater jump.

Then the weights went down and so did we. We did mountain climbers. Then we got up and bounced around. Then back down and did mountain climbers, but the knee came up to the opposite hand. My abs were still sore and so were my shoulders so this was rough. We came up again and then went back down and just held a plank. We were supposed to hold it for 200 seconds. They actually started to count it down. They only got through about 10 seconds and then it switched to the next round.

Level 3

Bob was back. I was happy. We used dumbbells in this section to. We started with a diagonal press. We pressed the weights up over one shoulder and then came down across the body and down by the knee. It's kind of like a wood chopper, but it wasn't very fast. Then the weights went down and we did jumping jacks. He called them military jumping jacks though. We were in a bit of a squat position while doing jumping jacks. That wasn't working for me so I just did jumping jacks without the squat position. Then we did the diagonal press on the opposite side. Then we did the military jacks, but only the leg part. We held the weights in our hands and kept them close to the body. I didn't do the squat type position with these either. Then we held the squat position and twisted our upper body quickly. I like this move. We used to do it in Tae Bo.

We got down on the floor and went from Push Up position to Down Dog. This was rough for me. My shoulders were pretty beat by this point. Then we held push up position and brought a knee to our forehead. My knee never quite made it to my forehead. I'm just not very limber. Then we did a couple push ups. Then we moved to Down Dog again. Then we did push ups in Down Dog position. I'm so not good at these. This was sooooo hard! Then we held Down Dog. Then we did split down dog. We've already established that I do not like split down dog! We switched legs without any rest in the middle, but we didn't hold the second leg up for very long. Then we got on our knees and rolled our wrists. Then we went back to push up position. We did one push up and then went to down dog and did a push up from there. We alternated there for a bit. This section was just torture! We were supposed to listen carefully because he would have us hold a position and then tell us how many push ups to do. Then we did some more split down dog but did the push ups with them! OMG! More push ups! Then we did fast mountain climbers. I can't do mountain climbers fast! Then we did some deep breathing and side bends and we were done! I was pretty thankful to be done!

Cool Down

Tara led the cool down. We did some lateral lunge stretches and then raised an arm to twist the torso. Then we did a runner's stretch, but it wasn't very deep. We leaned back and hit the hamstrings for a bit. Then we switched sides. We did some tricep and shoulder stretches. Then some arm circles and we were done!

Overall, I liked this workout. I kind of wish I had done it sooner. I got it from the library a few times, but never managed to do it. In the beginning, I could only handle one Biggest Loser workout in a week because it took me several days to recover. I didn't think I was going to be able to move after doing this workout, but I think all of the down dog in the last section helped stretch me out. Yoga seems to help with muscle soreness. YAY!

Bodymedia Screen Shot

I thought I would have gotten more activity minutes on this, but the floor stuff really doesn't give you much chance for activity. I was moving, I was sweating and I was breathing heavy, but not enough to get more than 32 minutes of activity. Oh well.

Review of The Biggest Loser The Workout Weight Loss Yoga

Weight Loss Yoga

I did Yoga Level 1 back in June of 2014. It was my first experience with a Yoga DVD. I wasn't in love, but it didn't turn me off yoga. It was challenging back then. I didn't redo that segment this time due to time. I kind of wish I had though just to see if it was challenging for me this time. I did Yoga Level 1 and Yoga Level 2 this time. I also did the warm up and the cool down. Bob led the whole thing and former contestants were in the group. You can pick any or all of the 5 segments. You can play it with just the music or with the instructors talking.

Warm Up (5 minutes)

We started with some deep breathing while stretching our arms up. Then we did a side bend to each side. Then we did a runner's stretching and moved our arms around. Then we leaned back to stretch the hamstrings. We did that on both sides. Then we did some forward folding. More deep breathing.

Yoga Level 2 (15 minutes)

This was Yoga Pilates Abs. I didn't realize that before I picked it. My abs were still killing me from 10 Minute Fix for Abs from 21 Day Fix. We started off with some Cat / Cows. Then we lifted one leg straight out behind us. Then the opposite hand went straight out and we did some Bird Dog. We held each side for about 30 seconds. Then we started the move again but changed it to Awkward Airplane. The arm and the the leg went out to the sides. This was pretty challenging for my balance. I was able to hold it, but it was hard! He had a couple modifier people who only moved their arm to the side and the leg stayed back. Then we did both sides again. Moving into Elbow Plank. My favorite! We did some Mountain Climbers, but the knees went towards the opposite elbow. We held plank again. So much planking in this.

Some of the contestants had water balls. I used my 8 pound medicine ball because I didn't have a water ball. They went into Camel, but it was a modified camel. They didn't reach back to their feet. They held the ball out in front and then leaned back. The modifier didn't have the ball and she put her hands on her hips. The others raised the ball up over their head as they came forward and then lowered it in front as they leaned back. Then they held the ball up over their head for a few seconds at the end.

Then we went into a side plank. He started out with doing it on the knee, but then quickly went to the full version. He had us rotate and reach the raised hand underneath our armpit. I never liked these in PiYo and I wasn't any better at them here. I started out doing the full version, but side plank is just too dang hard to hold so I dropped to my knee. Bob talked a lot during this little one. We sat up to relax our wrists and then we did the same thing on the other side.

Then we sat on our butts with our feet on the floor and our needs in about a 45 degree angle. We basically did sit ups for a little bit. Then he grabbed the ball and we moved our arms up over our heads with the ball and pulled it to our knees as we sat up. I used my 8 pound medicine ball. I was able to actually do the sit ups. I was impressed with that! Then we were on our backs with our knees bent and the ball between them. We lifted our hips into Bridge and then lowered. We did that for a bit After a bit, he had us move our arms as we did Bridge. That was a bit weird since I'm not used to moving my arms during that. Then we held Bridge for a few seconds.

Then we held the ball in front of us as we did boat. It started out modified, but then he moved to the full version with both legs straight. My abs were killing me by now! I was so happy to roll over and get on my belly. We did a swimming move. One leg went up while the opposite arm went up. We then switched them slowly. We then went faster with it so it was more of a flutter. Then we held a full Superman with arms and feet up. He has us stretch our arms out to the side and hold it. That one seemed to last forever! Then we were done with this segment.

Yoga Level 3 (10 Minutes)

This was called Yoga Strength. He used weights! Two of the contestants used weights and two did. We started out with some deep breathing and stretching our arms up over our head while holding weights. I used my five pound dumbbells. Then we did some forward stretching that was pretty much a deadlift. For a couple of them he did them with one leg going back as we bent forward and lowered the weights. I'm still not good at those.

Then we went to Crescent Pose. We moved up and down with this as we did shoulder presses. Then we held it up for a moment and then went back down and into Warrior 2. We held our legs still, but did Muscle Man Bicep Curls. My arms were not really in the mood for weights with yoga. I had to take breaks fairly often with the arms. Then we did a Right Angle with an elbow on our knee. Then we lowered the weight down towards the floor and then did a row and then pressed it back up to the sky. It's kind of hard to explain. Then we switched sides, but did lateral raises with our arms as we held Crescent instead of moving up and down and doing shoulder presses. It was weird to not do the same thing on each side. When we switched to Warrior 2, we did a chest fly. We did do the same arm movement with Right Angle.

Then we held Chair and did Tricep Kickbacks. I'm not a huge fan of chair and I really hate tricep kickbacks so I wasn't thrilled with this little section, but I got through it. I did have to stand up a time or two though. Even with my five pound dumbbells, this was hard! We held it back and did little pulses. It was really hard! Then we just held it back. OMG! Then we put the arms down straight and sunk deeper into Chair. We only held that for a few seconds, but it was torture, but then the weights went down! YAY!

We stood at the back of the mat. We bent forward and put our hands on the mat in front of us. We walked our hands out to Plank position and then did three push ups. My Push Ups were on my knees! Then we walked our hands back to our feet. We did that a few times. The last time we did it, we just held Plank. We held that for a little bit and then lifted a leg up and held it. Then we pulled a knee to our chests and held it. Then we put it back. We did each side a few times. This move is really hard for e! It looked like it was hard for the male contestant too! Ali was a super star with it. She was even able to touch her knee to her forward, but she did it with a really arched back and I didn't think we were supposed to do that so I didn't. I'm going to try it! That was the last moved. We did a little deep breathing to close it out.

Cool Down

We started off with a straddle stretch and we went as far forward as we could. Then we leaned to the side and then back to the center before going to the other side. Then we put the feet together and did some forward folds. Then we did my favorite! We were on our backs and pulled one knee to the chest. Then we pulled that knee towards the floor on the opposite side. My back usually cracks when I do this one. I love it! We did each side and then moved into Corpse pose. After that we sat up and did a cross legged pose while he talked a little bit. It was weird to end a yoga workout without saying Namaste, but we didn't do it.

Overall, I liked this workout, but the weights made it much more challenging. Weights are weights and yoga is yoga. Yoga has enough strengthening aspects that I don't think the weights were really necessary. It gave it a different feel and it wasn't very relaxing. If I did this again, I might skip the weights, but then I would feel like I'm not giving it my all so I'm not really sure. Maybe, I just won'd do this one again so I won't have to decide. It really was a good workout though.

Yoga screen shots are never impressive and this one isn't any different.

Review of The Biggest Loser Power X-Train All Bout Reps

Power X-Train - All About Reps

I did the Metabolic Circuit on this DVD close to a year ago. This thing kicked my butt. At the time, I just couldn't attempt to do the other workouts on this DVD. I was supposed to start Beachbody Body Beast last week, but we didn't get the weights. I was then supposed to start it this week, but still no weights. I decided to do some Biggest Loser workouts from the library. I picked this one because I never finished it. It drives me nuts when I don't finish a DVD!

Today, I did the warm up, All About Reps and the cool down. The warm up was led by Dolvett. I personally don't like how he leads DVDs. It feels forced and fake, but he went through some decent warm up stuff. There was some different stuff in there that I'm not used to having in a warm up. Most of it was the normal arm circles and stuff like that, but one of the moves was pulling up your knee with your hands. That challenged my balance. I really need to Tai Cheng and see if I can improve my balance!

Okay so the workout was led by Bob Harper. There were former contestants in the video with him. The format was interesting. There were four exercises. We did each one for 60 seconds. After we did all four, we had a one minute break. We did the four exercises three times. We started off with burpees. We did the push up version with a jump. Then, we faced a side wall and did a squat. Once we came up from the squat we jumped up and turned to face the opposite wall. Then we did Lateral Lunges with a dumbbell. As we stood up, the dumbbell went up over our heads. As we lunged to the side, the dumbbell came down in front of us. Everyone did them kind of different. Some of them did them straight up and straight down, but others kind of arced it forward and then pulled their elbows back. Then we did air squats. Towards the end of the 60 seconds we were supposed to pick up the pace with these.

I managed to get through each round without bailing at anytime. I didn't really go fast at the end of the air squats though.

Here is the screen shot for the workout. I thought I would have gotten more minutes of activity. This thing was pretty rough at times!
