Imperfect Foods Box 2

We got our second Imperfect Foods box. I'm not going to go into a big description of the concept, but you can read more about that in my post about my first Imperfect Food box. The general concept is, they are trying to reduce food waste by selling things that wouldn't be sold otherwise. The pic above is everything we got in our second box. Scroll all the way down to see the box before I unpacked it.

This isn't the best pic, but I'm still working on my food pictures. Hubby made a big meatloaf on Sunday and we had some of that with some apple cider roasted parsnips and carrots. We are not fans of parsnips, but this was in our first box so we thought we'd try them again. I found this recipe and thought we'd give it a whirl. They took way longer than 35 minutes to cook. I think it was close to an hour. I thought the foil would help make clean up easier, but it was harder. The foil got baked to my dish. It's going to take some effort! When we had them fresh out of the oven, we liked them and thought we would do this again. When we had them re-heated the next night, I couldn't finish them. I wanted to gag over the texture. The carrots were great. The parsnips were not!

This juice was a mixture of stuff from the first box and the second box. I had two pears from box 1, two bunches of free kale from box 2, three carrots from box 2, a cucumber from box 2, and lemon juice from a bottle we had in the fridge. This was my first attempt at juicing again. It wasn't the best juice ever, but it wasn't disgusting. I was able to finish it, so that's a plus! It was funny that it showed up free though since I had regretted not getting juicing greens in the box and then they were free. I sent them an email telling them they could charge me for the kale since it wasn't on my list. They said it must have been a freebie and then gave me a $5.00 credit for my inconvenience. I got a free item and they gave me money? How odd and fun! This freebie thing is a thing though. I read about it on Facebook posts later.

This is our breakfast from Saturday. It included the potatoes from box 2. They were yellow potatoes which was nice. I like them better than russets. Imperfect Foods Box 1 had russets. At the time, I thought this was also the bacon from box 2, but I found out later that it wasn't. Hubby boiled the potatoes and then fried them. They were super yummy! He said he boiled them too long, but I think they were perfect! The imperfection was surplus for the potatoes.

These cookies were only $1.99 for a three pack due to a short expiration date. I can't eat these, but I got them for hubby. He said he didn't taste the chocolate much, but it added to the texture. He liked them and requested them for the next box. There are four pieces in each I think and they are about an inch square.

The picture is terrible, but I ate them all before I figured out that I needed a better picture. The name is pretty self explanatory. They really are dark chocolate discs. Hubby didn't like the flavor much, but I did. They are about an inch in diameter. maybe a little more. They have multiple levels or darkness. This was 65%. They also have 80% and 40%. I got the 40% for the next box. They farmer had too much product so Imperfect Foods made these.
We haven't eaten this yet, but we'll get there eventually. This is tri-color quinoa and the imperfect story is that the ratio is not correct. Apparently tri-color quinoa needs to have the proper color ratios. Who knew? Who really cares how many pieces of whatever color there are. Not much else to say about this stuff.

We haven't eaten this either, but we'll get there. This is brown rice. They call it quick cooking. It's story is that there are broken pieces. They say it will cook faster, but still have all of the brown rice nutrients. We shall see if it cooks faster.
We haven't eaten this bacon yet even thought I thought we had. Oopsy. It's now in the freezer and who knows when we'll eat it. We've had it before though and we like it. It's a ticker cut. However, I don't think I'll be getting much meat from Imperfect Foods in the future. This came in a giant insulated pouch thing with an ice block. Imperfect Foods Box 1 had meat and an ice pack, but no giant insulated pouch thing. Seemed very wasteful for a small amount of meat. You can see the silver in the pic down at the bottom. It doesn't show the full size though.

I haven't opened this dried pineapple yet either, but the other dried stuff was super yummy so I expect this to be yummy as well. ***EDITED to add*** I opened the dried pineapple. Some of the pieces look like sawdust. It's rather amusing. This stuff was super tasty. Within 10 minutes, I got super gassy. I had been having gas issues for a couple weeks so I was super focused on when it happened. I checked with a friend and she said maybe they used sulphur dioxide on them. I checked with Imperfect Foods and they said they did. Apparently 1% of the population has a reaction to sulphur dioxide and I think I'm one of them. I had been eating the cranberries and mangoes from my Imperfect Foods Box 1. My friend found mangoes at Costco that have no sulphur dioxide, so I have to try those before I decide for sure that it's the sulphur dioxide causing the gas. Until then, no more dried pineapple, cranberries or mangoes from Imperfect Foods for me.

Here are my funky looking carrots. I also had a funky looking parsnip in Imperfect Foods Box 1. Those are the only odd shapes so far other than the

We haven't eaten the spaghetti squash, tomato sauce or oranges yet. We did eat one of the avocados, but the pic is missing. The avocados are tiny and the pit is super tiny. They are adorable. I made avocado egg salad. Hubby liked it on toast, but not by itself. I was fine with it by itself. It was just salt. avocado and hard boiled eggs. I'll do it again and take a pic. We still have two avocados left!

  1. Hey, was there a warning label on your chocolate discs? Just got mine and they said they may contain lead and cadmium...
